activities move to the battlefield where the UDC, a Union representative, re-enactors and a cavalry honor guard will place wreaths at the monument in honor of both Union and Confederate soldiers.
The Friends of Cedar Mountain Battlefield have organized living history encampments on the battlefield which will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, August 6 and from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, August 7. All acti ities are free with donations accepted. Visitors will be able to gain historical perspectives from members of the Cedar Mountain Chapter Order of Southern Gray, the Brandy Rifles Camp of Sons of Confederate Veterans, Carpenter’s Artillery Battery, 4th Virginia Cavalry, 13th Virginia Infantry and others.
Scheduled activities Saturday include: a 1 p.m. cavalry demonstration, a 1:30 p.m. infantry demonstration, a 2 p.m. artillery demonstration, plus a skirmish at 3 p.m. Virginia Morton, author of Marching Through Culpeper, will conduct a 1 hour w alking tour of the battlefield at 7 p.m.
At 11:30 a.m. Sunday the Sons of Confederate Veterans will dedicate a new grave marker.
According to FCMB president Kurt Johnson, “We’re working hard to restore this battlefield and increase tourism. We invite everyone to come see our progress to date. This is a great opportunity to bring the family out, explore the battlefield, and learn about this fierce battle.”
