Hampton District Board member Bryant Lee offered.
“I’d be willing to do a motion if we don’t have to take a bid.” On that basis, Frazier moved that the BOS authorize Chappell to solicit bids for a pared down, simpler track, and for an alternative steel modular structure for the band room. The motion passed, with the proviso that the BOS may refuse any and all bids.
Spending that does not exceed the previously approved budget is already within the purview of the School Board.
So Chappell was able to accept the current bid on the auxiliary gym while soliciting other bids on modular buildings and a pared down track. For more details, see Chappell’s own update, in Chappell’s Comer,'on page A6.
Work at the
elementary school
Chappell briefed the BOS on progress with current roof and HVAC work being done at Rappahannock Elementary School. He expressed confidence that “barring unforeseen problems, we should be done August 15, or sometime that week”.
While predicting timeliness, Chappell cautioned that a severe heat wave slowing the pace of labor, or a severe, prolonged wet spell, complicating labor could both delay completion.
