Representing the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection, Sharon Pierce and Susan Strittmater presented the BOS with a check for $15,000, earmarked for conservation and preservation within the county.

Several ladies from the Washington Garden Club, speaking as private citizens, were at the meeting to oppose proposed courthouse groundskeeping plans.
The Garden Club helps maintain the courthouse grounds on a volunteer basis. All urged simpler, plain lawn, slow growing boxwood and maybe magnolia trees, as being truly the lowest maintenance.
Hence, they argued, such plants would provide the best appearance for the cost. And be more likely well maintained. Mrs. Richard Kilby, implored: “I can’t get my beds weeded. How in the world will I get to this?”
McCarthy responded that the plan is merely a long term goal, subject to change with input such as this. McCarthy suggested the BOS make no changes for now, and continue gathering input.
