Cracking down

A number of tragedies in the past couple of years prompted officials to crack down on the “racing” in Thornton Gap. Settle said. They’ve installed rumble strips and stepped up enforcement.

Now they’re getting even more help to combat motorcycle “racing” throughout the area.

“The Special Enforcement Team is (a unit) comprised of about four to five troopers. All of their emphasis is on problem areas throughout the division. It’s been helpful and it’s been productive,” Settle said.
