Steve Angelicas and his Mend Steve Johnson say they don’t believe in taking chances on their motorcycles.
So before they jumped on their bikes on Sunday morning, they carefully plotted the 90mile route from Mechanicsville . to Bealeton. They decided to skip the highways and take the back roads to the Bealeton Flying Circus, where they had entered their sports bikes in the annual “Motorcycle Day” competition.
After travelling scenic byways for a little more than two hours, the men reached the „ show grounds unscathed.
“The two of us are very wellversed in safety,” said Johnson, a member of the Richmond BMW Riders Club. “We’re pretty selective about getting the right type of gear and protecting our whole bodies.”
Still, he and Angelidis both know that all riders aren’t so cautious, and those who aren’t often wind up paying a hefty price for it.
“I saw a bad accident on the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina,” Angelidis said. “It was a guy from Chicago. They had to fly him out by helicopter.”
