“It scares me that people are compartmentalizing like this. At [Cinema Paradiso] you get to come talk to people,” said Plotnick. While Cinema Paradiso plans to keep providing the county with films, Netflix’s growing success continues to make it harder. Kramer views her store as a contribution to the Rappahannock community, and points out that Cinema Paradiso is not a for profit enterprise. “If it was about money, it would have closed six months ago,” said Kramer.“I donate the space, I donate the hours of my time. The community has to want it enough.”
