Roundtable Meetings Fauquier County Civil War Roundtable monthly meeting The Fauquier County Civil War Roundtable’s monthly * ? dinner meeting will be held Wednesday, October 12, 2005,at ' the Fauquier Springs Country Club. Everyone, members and | non-members are invited and welcome. Mr. Joe McKinney will speak on “Cavalry Leadership.” Mr. McKinney is a historian who lives in Brandy Station, VA near the battlefield and Fleetwood Hill, the site of the largest cavalry battle in the U.S. Joe graduated from West Point in 1970. Rising to the rank of Lt. Col., he served in a variety of command and staff assignments, including tours as * an infantry platoon leader in Vietnam and as a tactics instrucf tor at the U.S. Army Command & General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, KS. He has spoken often to Civil War groups in the area on the cavalry, and General Alexander Napoleon Duffie’. The evening starts with a social time at 6:30 p.m. Dinner is from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. followed by the program. Guests can come just for the program if they wish. Blue Ridge Civil War Roundtable monthly meeting •C The next meeting of the Blue Ridge Civil War Roundtable will be on Tuesday, October 18, 2005 at the Public House Restaurant in Flint Hill, VA. Ms Debra Sandoe McCauslin will talk on “ Kitty Payne’s * Pain”. This is the story about Kitty Payne and her four chil* dren who were once slaves in Rappahannock County, VA; - were freed; and then recaptured and returned to slavery. Debra lives in Heidlersburg, PA, eight miles north of Gettysburg. She was born in Gettysburg and is a life-long resident of Adams County. She has worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for 25 years. For several years ' Debra has bear researching the life and death of George Washington Sandoe, who was the first to fall at Gettysburg. His story was published in the August 2000 issue of the Civil War Times Illustrated. She has developed and taught the course, “The Rebels Have Arrived” at the Harrisburg Area ‘ Community College and she has spoken to school groups, his- • torical preservation societies and Civil War roundtables in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maryland. She is currently * serving on the Board of Directors for The Preservation Society of Gettysburg/Adams County where she chairs the / ; Underground Railroad Committee. * The evening starts with a social time at 6:30 p.m. Dinner is from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. followed by the program.
