As long as the vast majority of people remain untouched or perhaps even profit by the war, he may ask why he should be expected to feel gung ho about laying his life on the line. Also, there are many subtle and forthright attacks on the idea of patriotism. Youths seldom see their parents and other adults expressing strong national sentiment. And they are increasingly exposed to the influence of professors and other intellectuals, many of whom brand patriotism as old-fashioned and fringing upon lunacy. All told, this just isn t the climate to induce patriotism in young Americans. Its a climate that imposes a grave handicap on the country in this struggle for survival against Communistic tyranny. * ■ >
