It is to be hoped that our DGIF has not succumbed to the same pressures that have caused such controversy in other states, i.e., no longer managing deer hunting to ensure a healthy and vital deer herd for generations to come, but managing to provide maximum revenue from the sale of hunting licenses.
Follow The Money
I sure hope that is not the case. I have long praised the work of our fisheries and game biologists in Richmond, for bringing us to the point where we can go afield with hopes of bringing home some venison. But, I also know that DGIF receives the majority of its funds from boat titling and registration fees, and from the sale of hunting and fishing licenses.
This thing with crossbows is OK, I guess, but, it just doesn’t feel right. It feels contrived. I surely hope the good people at DGIF, who have done such a superb job in the past, have not lost sight of hunting as an integral part of the tradition and culture of growing up in rural Virginia.
