1950s Charles Eames rocker, and glass and chrome occasional tables designed by Eileen Gray in the 1920s, complement the new French sofas, upholstered in charcoal suede. Bright red sofa cushions, designed from French linens found at R.H. Ballard’s in Washington, provide vivid spots of color. Throughout the home, dramatic accessories highlight the modem style. Japanese vases, polished driftwood pieces, and a large intriguing sculpture, “Movumondo”, draw the eye. The sculpture, made by the Batchelder’s son-in-law, Jeffrey Wise, sits on a charcoal gray granite plinth, and seems to be blessing both the interior and the exterior of the home. A small, round window beside the fireplace appears to bring green pine branches into the room.
