Rappahannock’s community coalition for hurricane relief continued its efforts to raise money for those devastated by hurricane Katrina by holding a concert at Sunnyside Farms @ The Schoolhouse on Saturday, October 29th. The music played at the benefit concert included everything from Contemporary Christian music performed by the band David’s Heart, to Civil War tunes sung by John Ible and Ann Howard, dressed in the style of clothing that would have been worn during the 1860’s. Ible and Howard’s lyrics about the government and elections many would say are just as pertinent today as they were during the time period in which they were written.
One of the highlights of the day, which the crowd seemed to especially enjoy, was the hand clapping, foot tapping gospel performed by the Promised Land Men’s Chorus. Other acts on the day’s schedule were: Judy Reidinger, Carla Theodore & Nancy Peacock, Donnie Carter, Ginger Jarrell, King’s Travelers, Three Generations, Joyful Noise, David “Scratch” Clanagan & Co., Lorraine Duisit, and Smiggy, Johnny, Steve and Mole.
The event also included a bake sale and the auctioning off of a Cadillac, with all of the proceeds going to help Katrina victims. Folks also had the opportunity to purchase wine, jams, jellies, coffee, and other local non-perishables from Sunnyside, to be donated to the coalition and placed in Thanksgiving baskets that will be distributed in Mississinni
