Virginia’s Vineyards are producing award-winning wines that compete on both the national and international level. Rappahannock County not only has its share of fine wineries, but is also home to writer Walker Elliot Rowe who will be on hand for a pleasant evening during which he will discuss and sign copies of his new book, “Wandering Through Virginia’s Vineyards.” The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place on Friday, November. 11th at 7:00 p.m. at the Old Sperryville Bookshop located on Main Street in historic Sperryville.
Rowe’s book describes a gold rush of sorts that is underway in Virginia, pointing out that the treasure under pursuit is not a precious metal, rather, it is the grape. From Leesburg in the north down to Roanoke in the south, dot-com millionaires, celebrities, retired civil servants and apple farmers are turning fallow pastures and orchards into row after row of European fine wine grapes.
