What started several months ago as charges against a girls basketball coach has now come nearly full circle as Edwards has been sentenced in two counties and is appealing a conviction in a third. Rumors have been rampant. Lives have been impacted across the board. The pail of the picture that hasn’t come into focus and may never is at the heart of these heartless events. How does a coach move from school to school, from team to team, from family to family without someone along the line taking the initiative to put up the red flag and stop him in his tracks before he moves on? Reportedly there was evidence or at least rumors and yet years went by before the succession of events finally erupted with charges filed last March by victims in this county. When we are dealing with young lives and the consequences of things that happen to them, we are all responsible if things don’t go the way we planned and we had opportunities to step in, take the heat and perhaps make a call that would spare a tender soul grief.
