Brendan Murphy, 45, a Realtor from Fox Mill, said he too supported Kilgore because of his promise to hold the line on taxes.
“I was unhappy with the tax increase with Warner,” he said.
Kilgore and several Republican House candidates were unsuccessful in portraying last year’s tax increase as a mistake. Despite reservations at the time, Virginians now overwhelmingly support the historic investment in education. Working with a Re- ^ publican legislature, Warner also cut some taxes.
Tony Bigbee, 38, of Herndon, said Kaine’s transportation proposals won him over, but added that he “didn’t really hear a coherent plan from either candidate.”
Kaine has pledged to launch a statewide dialogue on transportation between now and January when he officially takes office. He has long said tackling the region and the state’s mounting congestion will be the chief task for the next governor.
