The School Board directed Chappell to speak with the BOS and County Administrator John McCarthy to negotiate how to proceed and to try to return some control over the process to the School Board. During public comments, Linda Tbrrance of Jackson District and several other parents spoke in support of the track, and were critical of the BOS’s record of support for athletic programs at the school.
Elementary environmental efforts
Chappell told the Board he, McCarthy and Sperryville sewer plant operator Troy Jenkins have made plans for “remedial action on the elementary school septic system.” Chappell said the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality has cited the plant several times and also the system is many decades old and antiquated. He urged the Board to approve the remedial steps and upgrade in order to protect the school system from liability. The Board voted unanimously in favor.
