an Amateur Athletic Union girl’s team that had members from Fauquier, Rappahannock and other surrounding counties.

“He was a great coach, he was good with the kids and they really liked him,” said the father of one of Edward’s victims. Both Rappahannock victims were very serious about basketball, and some area families had considered sending their daughters to Highland when Edwards was there so that they could benefit from Edward’s coaching. However, prior even to Edwards being hired at WCDS, one of the victim’s fathers said there were rumors about his conduct with the girls he coached.

“I heard some rumors , but I watched him and there has to be some touching when you’re coaching. He would take them and move them bv the shoulders. He seemed like a great guy,” explained the victim’s father.

WCDS Head of School Kathleen Grove said that she was not aware of any negative rumors about Edwards’ conduct at Highland before hiring him.
