Reverend Tferry Utz of CBM Ministries spoke to the board proposing that the elementary school participate in their bible studies program.
For decades these bible studies classes took place inside some schools, but, Utz explained, in 1963, a court decision required the classes to take place off school property. Since then, CBM Ministries has taught the classes on properties neighboring school property or on buses off property.
Rappahannock participated in the program for many years, but CBM stopped them more than two decades ago due to scarce resources. Several neighboring counties participate in the program. The classes, which Utz described as nondenominational Christian bible study, would be an hour a month per participating elementary school students.
