Former Wakefield Country Day School Girl’s basketball coach Waymond James Edwards Jr. was sentenced November 3rd to eight years in prison for sex crimes committed against two teenaged minors in Rappahannock County. Five years of the prison time are suspended, but it includes an additional three years of probation and over $3,000 in restitution money. Edwards is also barred from coming within 100 feet of any school or having contac with unrelated females tinder the age of eighteen for the duration of his probation and will have to register as a sex offender for the rest > f his life. The three years of prison time will be served in addition to a one-year sentence Edwards is currently serving for similar crimes committed in Fauquier County. Edwards was also convicted of related crimes in Botetourt County, but is appealing those charges.
The sentencing follows Edwards’ guilty plea in Rappahannock County Circuit Court on October 24 to a felony charge of taking indecent liberties with a a child while in a supervisory relationship and multiple counts of misdemeanor sexual abuse and contributing *to the delinquency of a minor.
