This past week, Wakefield Country Day School (WCDS) held its annual international celebration of the many cultures and customs that our country embodies.
Thursday, the school hosted an educational music concert in the Leonard M. Cowherd Auditorium, attended by students from first through twelfth grade. This special musical presentation, organized by the school’s Spanish and Music departments, featured the talents of the group, Solazo, a musical ensemble that teaches while performing.
The group gave a musical tour- of Latin and South America, showcasing some of the unique instruments from that region. They incorporated the sounds of Argentina, Chile, and Ecuador into their act, and finished up with a popular number from the island of Cuba.
Joining the group on drums during the Cuban segment was Gali Sanchez, who is not only Wakefield’s upper school Spanish teacher, but also a talented musician and former percussionist for the band Santana. Solazo’s finale featured cameo appearances on-stage by several band students from Rappahannock High School: Evan Espinola, Jason Wiese, Josh Makela, Dos Allen, Brandon Lee, Andrew Treanor, Patrick Treanor and Matt Wiese.
