MTV Road Rules star to

speak at LFCC in December

Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC) Student Activities and the Gay/Straight Alliance at LFCC are co- % V sponsoring a diversity event presented by Shane Landrum, a cast member on MTVs Road Rules - Campus Crawl, on Friday, Dec. 2 at 1 p.m. in the William H. McCoy Special Events Center located inside the Alson W;M Smith, Jr. Technology Center on the Middletown Campus, located at 173 Skirmisher Lane in Middletown. The event is free and open to the public.

“LFCC values diversity,” said Douglas Cumbia, director of student success at LFCC. “This event is designed to explore our diverse culture and learn more about others in support of LFCC’s strategic goal of creating a learning environment where every individual succeeds.” Landrum, who at the age of 23 is one of the most recognized gay • celebrities in the nation, will center his presentation on the following:

• It’s “Okay” to be Different!

•Stereotyping

• Self Expression

• Deflecting Hatred

Three years ago Landrum left the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill to become a cast member in MTV’s Road Rules - Campus Crawl. Landrum also starred in The Real World/Road Rules Challenge, Battle of the Sexes, Battle of the Sexes 2 and The Inferno. His brief reality stint turned into a life-altering experience, leaving Landrum with the desire to share the positive experience of the show with college students across the country.

On Road Rules, Landrum was able to overcome the homophobia that surfaced within the cast. Since August 2002, he has become a nationally recognized minority activist as well as an accomplished public speaker, entertaining and lecturing at over 150 colleges about diversity.

In the past three years since his original filming, Landrum returned to school to continue his efforts to be a Spanish linguist in the ultimate goal of becoming a U.S. diplomat. He has also been a cast member in four more MTV series after Road Rules, as well as three special episodic tapings.
