The Rappahannock County School Board met in a special session Tuesday, November 22, to discuss the bid for construction of a new band room at the elementary school. The bid would have expired had the board taken no action by that date.

The band room, designed to also be a fitness room, would be adjacent to the school and replace the aging existing modular building. The bid from Lantz Construction Co. of Winchester, Inc. came it) at $148,205.00. This amount is higher than expected, and exceeds the amount the school system currently has in its coffers for the project by $28,000.

Also, School Superintendent Dr. Robert Chappell informed the board that Lantz had informed him that very day that, although the bid included putting in a public address system, it did not cover putting in trenching, conduit and cables to connect it to the rest of the school, so the final cost would be at least $6-7,000 more than the bid
