We have been working to resolve a matter that came to our attention in October when we had the first heavy rains following installation of roof-top AC units above the RCES Cafeteria and Gym. Water was coming through the roof in one part of the cafeteria. According to staff and my own observations, there had been no leaks in the cafeteria prior to the contractor’s AC installation on the roof.
Since October, we have been working with all parties involved to repair the damage done to the roof - at no cost to taxpayers.
In the meantime, we have taken the following steps to insure safety of students and staff:
1. We have asked the roofing company that performs our routine roof repairs to stop the leaks until more permanent repairs can be done according to the manufacturer’s specifications. They have told me they will be here Thursday or Friday of this week.
2. Electrical fixtures under the leaks have been disconnected.
3. Ceiling tiles under the leaks have been removed.
4. During periods of rain we route children and staff around the area where the leaks are occurring. If you have questions contact me at 987-8773.
