A 2004 graduate of Rappahannock County High School, Midshipman Thornhill, is a member of the Academy’s Class of 2008 and was nominated to attend the Academy by Congressman Eric Cantor and Senator John Warner.
All students at the Academy must spend part of their sophomore and junior years at sea, gaining practical knowledge about the performance and operating characteristics of various types of merchant vessels. They become familiar with the ocean trade routes of the world.
The Academy is located in Kings Point NY and is operated by Qie Maritime Administration of the U.S. Department of Transportation.
