“The gist of the improvements is picking the best paragraphs. We refine those, not making them more restrictive, but bringing them up to date with state code,” said Cheryl Shepard of Millennium Preservation Services, who is guiding the town through the historic district process.
In October, Shepard also provided Washington with a 90-page proposed list of specific architectural guidelines based on the town’s current character, the result of a $20,000 historic survey commissioned by the Washington Town Council in July 2004.
