Boc, who grew up in Rome, New York, graduated from Syracuse University with a BS in Civil Engineering in 1964 and spent most of his engineering career working with the US Army Corps of Engineers in New York City, where he lived on the Upper West Side for 37 years. It was in New York, during the 19703 that Boc got serious about photography and began taking private lessons and several courses at the New School and the International Center for Photography in NYC, studying under Ben Fernandez, Philipe Halsmann, Ruth Orkin, W. Eugene Smith, and JiU Friedman. ” '’ ‘
Boc shared a dark room during that time and he, along with ten others, rented raw space in Soho and founded the 22 Wooster Gallery on Wooster Street for four years, participating in group shows.
Since his retirement, Boc has moved heavily into digital photography, coming a long way from his first camera, a Roy Rogers box model that he used to take snapshots documenting family events and his college fraternity. Despite his use
