Washington’s Architectural Review Board and Planning Commission came together in a joint meeting Monday to discuss proposed changes to the newest draft of Washington’s Historic District Ordinance.
The proposed ordinance is intended to preserve the historic character of Washington’s architecture and will guide Washington’s ARB in rulings on future construction in town. The new Historic District ordinance and accompanying Historic District guidelines are intended to provide clear definitions and examples of Washington’s “historic architectural character,” giving the Architectural Review Board a documented and clearly defined basis for decisions, protecting Washington’s control of its development from court challenges.
