Also, Chappell said “the Board of Supervisors, to read between the lines, they are hoping for leftover funds for the track” referring to longstanding plans to build a new track at the high school that have run into difficulties due to skyrocketing construction estimates.
Another option put on the table was to begin the project and finish financing it in the next fiscal year. Chappell and the Board dismissed this for the risk of putting the school system in the untenable position of owing money it did not have.
After considering and eliminating several options, the Board determined that nothing could be done without first consulting the Board of Supervisors. “We need to get a feel for what the consensus of the Supervisors will be,” said Board member Rosa Crocker, expressing the emerging opinion of the ' Board who will consider asking the Board of Supervisors for an additional $28,000.
