lay lor s lavonte part ol the trip was being with the children, who she referred to as “selfless and patient. I would often take Polaroid pictures of the children, which they loved. They had never gotten their picture taken before.” One person who made a huge impact on Taylor was an 8year-old boy named Jonathan. Despite the obvious language barrier, Taylor was able to teach Jonathan how to stand up while riding a bike, and he was able to teach her some basic Spanish phrases.
This was a truly life changing experience for Taylor, and helped give her both perspective and appreciation.
“I was amazed at how hard some people have it. But, despite the poverty they endure, they are the most lovable people you will ever meet.” Taylor was also kind enough to make a class presentation about her trip, talking to fellow students about her experiences in Guatemala. She brought in local items, a very dramatic slide show, and the diary she kept during the mission.
Taylor left for Guatemala again on June 7.
