June 11: Butterfly celebration
Hospice of the Rapidan will sponsor their fourth annual Butterfly Celebration on Sunday, June 11 at 3 p.m. in the beautiful formal gardens of James Madison’s Montpelier in Orange. The Butterfly Celebration is a life-affirming expression of hope and peace highlighted by the release and flight of one hundred Monarch butterflies in the spring air accompanied by harp music. Anyone is welcome to sponsor one or more butterflies at $25 each. To honor a loved one by sponsoring a butterfly or to get more information, phone (540) 825-4840 or check online at www.hotr.org. Sponsorships must be ordered by June 1 to ensure recognition of your loved one in the event program. Butterfly sponsorships are tax deductible.
June 11: “Growing up and
Living in South Africa”
“Growing-up and Living in South Africa” will be the topic of a discussion by The Reverend Nigel and Wendy Mollink on Sunday, June 11, at 3 p.m at The Trinity Episcopal Church in Washington, Virginia. The public is invited to hear the personal experiences of the Mollinks’ being born and raised under the apartheid system and then being part of the miraculous transition to the integrated system of today in South Africa. Additionally, Nigel and Wendy will tell about their outreach ministry in a very rural, poverty area where 60% of the population does not have an income and HIV-Aids is extreme. Their efforts are assisted by contributions from Trinity and Leeds Episcopal Church of Hume, Virginia, along with assistance from “Hands of Hope” in South Africa. The Mollinks have been serving and worshiping at Trinity since mid-April while The Reverend Jennings (Jenks) Hobson, III is on sabbatical. Long Mountain Nursery daylilies have begun to bloom. The nursery will be open for retail on June 11,17,18, 24, July 1 & 2. Their hours will be 9-5 each of those days.
