“If you plant an idea and give them proper preparation and technical skills, they can do anything,” emphasized Norman.
“There are an excellent group of students in the county,” Norman continued, and “I’m proud to have 'em.” Norman also said that “Katie did a great job” and even came in on her own and did some extra welding separate from just her everyday classes to finish some of her projects. Norman said that Katie was an “exceptionally good student” and that she was very artistic and could translate that into anything.
Katie has translated her art into writing as well. She has composed a book of her own poems and is currently researching how to publish this book. Katie will be graduating this year and although she is not looking to be welder, as she will be attending college, she wants welding to be hobby of hers later in life.
Katie admits that she will miss the county when she leaves, but her goal in life will always be to “exceed and explore.”
“I want to do a lot of traveling and not stop learning,” said Nelson who added that she would like to thank Mr. Norman and all the English teachers she has had at Rappahannock High School, because they all supported her artistic abilities.
