Johnson admits to having a penchant for the Next Step program at Rappahannock County High School. Under the leadership of Miranda Hope, consistent inroads have been made to not only encourage students in post secondary education, whether that be a trade or technical school or a four-or twoyear college, but work hands on with them through the challenges that seeking financial aid or choosing the best program can present.
Mini-grants for teachers, the Starfish Mentoring Program and numerous summer workshops are other Headwaters sponsored programs that are all thriving and Johnson hopes to make even better.
While working in Washington, D.C., Johnson was involved with a national antihunger program that encouraged support of local food banks.
