three years the arboretum will consist of seven beds along a winding path leading from the parking lot to the Rush river. All beds will be planted with small trees and shrubs that are native to Virginia and our eastern mountains.
Start up funds were provided by the Four County Master Gardener Association while mulch and composting material was graciously provided by the Rappahannock Farmers Cooperative store.
Plantings in Bed #1 include a Sourwood tree, also known as the lily-of-the-valley tree, and Little Henry variety of Virginia Sweetspire. All plantings are identified with signs by both their common and Latin names. Brochures describing th’e plantings and the overall project will soon be available in a box at the park.
The next bed will be planted in the fall of this year. Master Gardeners will prepare, plant, and care for all the beds at no cost to the county. As this project progresses, the Prices will be looking for financial assistance from local businesses along with the donation of native plant materials from local nurseries. All businesses
