Style encompasses everything that might establish individuality or character in a living space. Things like personal collections, accessories, and memorabilia may be as important as furnishings, floor coverings, and window treatments in your home. The important thing about establishing a style is “identity”. All of us have gone through stages in our lives that dictate a style, and eventually these stages cause an evolution in style. When we are young, often budget limitations can cause a sacrifice in style. Impulsively we may buy pieces that don’t work together or stand the test of time. As life progresses, family life may require a high need for durability. Combining styles with other family members often creates challenges and significant compromise.
A good designer will carefully listen to you, observe your personality and tastes and help you establish the “look” that reflects you! Personally, I like to tour my clients’ homes with them on a first visit, and listen to what they like and don’t like about their existing surroundings. As we walk through their home, the client may casually explain their goals and the changes they are hoping to make. A very personal statement is made by the appearance of one’s home, and a good designer can help you put your stamp on the way it looks without allowing costly mistakes to be made.
An Interior Designer will have many resources from which to integrate fabrics, paint treatments, furniture (both upholstered and case goods), floor coverings, wall coverings, lighting and accessories to distinguish your home as your own.
