In early 2006, Sperryville Master Gardeners Jack and Sally Price developed a plan for a native plant arboretum to be located at the Rappahannock County Park on US 211.

They presented their proposal to the Rappahannock County Recreational Facility Authority, which approved the proposal, with some minor changes, at its March meeting.

The arboretum is designed to educate the public on the use of native alternatives to commonly used landscape trees and shrubs. The first bed was planted by Master Gardeners from the Four County Master Gardener Association in early May. When it is completed in
