The two women sat relaxed and smiling in freshly put together Adirondack chairs on the porch of Copper Fox in Sperryville. It was Monday morning, the beginning of a new week, and for these two women, the beginning of new paths.
Sun-glassed Paige Coombs gently sipped her coffee as she talked to her successor, Cole Johnson, who sat opposite in a soft, pink sweater.
Both women were elated.
“I can’t believe it,” laughed Johnson. “I’m very excited.”
“I’m so impressed,” remarked Coombs as she spoke of the number and caliber of the applicants for her position as Executive Director of Headwaters, Rappahannock’s educational foundation. “They were veiy strong and knowledgeable. But in the end, Johnson emerged as the clear choice and Coombs, who will be moving at the end of June to Connecticut, is ecstatic.
Johnson’s background in developing systems, accounting, fund raising and most recently, running her own business, made her an ideal candidate to assume the leadership of Headwaters.
Johnson admitted that she didn’t immediately apply for the position as operating the Copper Fox, an antique market in Sperryville, has kept her very busy but she was also looking for a change and a “bit of normalcy” back in her life.
