Suspect is still at large

Bloodhounds and helicopters were just part of the search effort deployed by the Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Office along Gid Brown Hollow road in the search for convicted felon Ira Wayne Cloniger,43,who is wanted in connection with the apparent murder of Edward Fletcher Jr.,29.

Fletcher,of Stephen City, VA, died early Sunday morning after sustaining a knife wound during an argument with Cloniger. The incident occurred at the home of Cloniger’s brother near Washington,Va, where all three men were staying. According to the RCSO, the weapon used was probably a common folding knife.

“Details need to be ironed out, but there were three men together, and there was a dispute that erupted between the two of them,”said Rappahannock County Sheriff Larry Sherertz

First responders to the scene, called by cell phone from the house at around 4:40 a.m. , found Fletcher already dead. This touched off what has become an extensive man hunt for Cloniger, who is reported to have fled the scene on foot. By 6 a.m. a Virginia State Police helicopter was searching the woods for the alleged killer, and K-9 units trained to track felons were brought in, from surrounding counties.
