The good news is that the
Virginia General Assembly has finally passed a budget. The really good news is that the House of Delegates refused to again raise taxes on Virginia’s families during these times of economic growth and budget surpluses. Those in the Governor’s mansion and Senate who ran their campaigns on promises not to raise taxes have been forced to keep their promises, at least for now. Though the agonizing, extended budget process seemed ridiculous and petty at times, there were serious matters of principle and fiscal responsibility at stake. I was proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with my colleagues in the House of Delegates as the only voice in Richmond that was saying “enough is enough”!
