Old Sperryville Bookshop

. Local author James Russell will be at the Old Sperryville Bookshop on Saturday, July 15th from 3 p.m to 5 p.m to sign copies of his newest book, Resting Rock. Davette Leonard, the book’s illustrator, will also be at the event. The public is invited to stop by anytime between 3 p.m. to 5 p.m to meet them. Resting Rock and Mr. Russell’s first book, Beyond the Rim, as well as photographs of Mr. Russell by Ray Boc will be available for sale and signing. The event is free. Located on Main Street in Sperryville in an old Episcopal church, the Old Sperryville Bookshop hours are Fridays and Saturdays 10-6 and Sundays 11-5.

July 15: Community Drum Circle

All are invited to join in creating rhythm and music on Saturday, July 15th from 5 - 6:30 p.m. at Sage (in the Rappahannock Wellness Center). No experience necessary. Group drumming is fun and has been proven to reduce stress. It can help stimulate coordination, cooperation, and greater listening skills. All ages welcome. July 15: RappFLOW Stream

Buffer Workshop

RappFLOW Stream Buffer Workshop on Saturday, July 15th from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Stream buffers are the areas of vegetation (trees, shrubs, and grass) along the stream banks. Keeping our rivers and streams healthy and maintaining diversity in our wildlife depends in part on the vitality of the stream buffers. Come join trainers Christina Loock, RappFLOW program director and Meghan Gloyd, RappFLOW Intern, to learn more about streams and buffers and how to assess them. Be prepared for a fun afternoon of outdoor fieldwork. Opportunities to be involved in RappFLOWs new volunteer buffer evaluation program will be discussed (although no commitment is necessary).

A two-day Bookmaking Workshop will be held at Revival Springs Retreat for Creative Action in Sperryville, led by Ann Georgia McCaffrey and assisted by Barbara Heile Sherwood and Beau Caldwell. This workshop introduces you to an easy and elegant book format with simple stitching which will showcase your work. You will explore the world of surface design on paper in this color filled and messy playtime while creating an array of wonderful patterned and colored papers for use in your book. All books are made using Archival materials and will last many hundreds of years given proper treatment! Workshop Times are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 15 and Sunday, July 16. The most is $125.
