Hamilton, the British general with the ‘hair’ fetish, decided what Clark was up to simply would not do. The Brit gathered his forces in the Detroit area and floated down Lake Eire, the Maumee and Wabash rivers to Fort Sackville at Vincennes in what is now western Indiana. The journey required two months. (He might have gotten there faster by driving from the Motor City, however cars were not invented yet).
