PROBATION OFFICER

Community Corrections

Position available in the Department of Community Corrections. Duties include supervising criminal defendants and offenders placed in the program by the Courts. Monitors community service work for program participants. Also responsible for administering drug tests, making appropriate treatment referrals and assuring that all special conditions of the Court are fulfilled. Submits reports and testifies in Court as required. Posh tion requires a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology or related field and three years of related experience. Experience working on individual and/or team projects, and functional or operational/administrative experience within the criminal justice system preferred. Also, ability to speak Spanish preferred. Must have a VCIN Operators Certification or obtain within six months of hire. Must be certified to conduct State mandated substance abuse assessments (Simple Screening Instrument) within sixty days of hire. Must also be able to interview and supervise offenders, some of which have a history of violent behavior. Mandatory drug test, criminal record and fingerprint check required for successful candidate.
