Huff, puff, huff...puff... whoooosh. You know there aught to be a law against how many hours a week a wife can make her husband work around the house. I’ve been runnin’ around this place most every night and Saturdays too for weeks now like my head was on fire and the rest was catch’en while my wife watches it all and offers “helpful” advice from the porch. You know the new thing these days is some “alone” time set aside for mom each day so she can unwind. Well what about dad, when does he get some “alone” time, and no that bathroom break does not count.
Let me give you folks an example of what I’m talking about. This didn’t happen here at the new house but rather at our very first house and should’ve been a “hint” for me but I was a little too tired to catch on to it right then. What happened was that we, or rather I, had about an acre and a half to mow with a little ole push mower and it was about this time of year and sure seemed to be right about 110 degrees...in the shade! Well I’d been out there for a good while steadily going at it, well fairly steadily anyway, and had just really started to feel like I was making progress when my wife comes out followed by our oldest boy who was right about 3 at the time. Here they come from around behind the house and are not only carrying glasses of ice tea but also low and behold, a couple of lawn chairs. I thought to myself, if this don’t beat all, how thoughtful and considerate and was really proud thinking of what a “wonderful” woman I’d somehow snagged and as her mother put it, “fooled into marrying me”. Anyway, I kept on mowing so I wouldn’t look like I was as tired and “about dead” as I was but from the comer of my eye I noticed that they’d stopped just
