Hart concluded by saying, “Hopefully the citizens will sleep better tonight. Hopefully the family, especially during this time of year, can look back and know that this person has been arrested.”
Warner’s sister, Ellen Embrey, 40, and ex-husband, Lonnie Warner, 42, were present at the press conference.
“The investigators are very confident about this suspect and their confidence makes me confident,” said Warner.
Warner said that the day before his ex-wife’s murder, the couple and their three children, now ages nine, 11, and 14, had gone to get a Christmas tree. The family went back to Sheryl’s home and set up the tree before the children left with their fpther to spend the night at his house. They never saw their mother again.
Ellen Embrey, 40, Sheryl’s sister, said, “I’m glad to know that the person responsible is behind bars. It does provide some relief.” She said that especially during this time of year, her faith is renewed in the “importance of family”.
Both Embrey and Warner plan to be present during Gray’s trail in Culpeper’s circuit court. Warner wants to see the whole thing to the end, and awaits meeting the man who murdered his children’s mother face to face.
