The Warrenton-based group claims that Dominion’s future electricity demands could be satisfied through conservation measures, better technology and upgrades to existing infrastructure.
Dominion, however, argues it has produced “overwhelming" evidence demonstrating a need for the line.
PEC insists that Dominion wants the line to profit from the megawatts it would transmit to ultimately feed the Northeast’s insatiable appetite for electricity.
“The energy companies and coal guys are trying to usurp the localities, and they’re looking for ways to send energy up and down the East Coast and the hell with everybody in between," Lazaro said.
