her family, this talented actress is garnering national recognition as a serious player on the national stage. She now has a starring role as a compulsive, self-absorbed parent in Distracted, a dramatic work now playing at the well-known Los Angeles Mark Taper Forum. Her play’s opening night brought out such Hollywood luminaries as Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg, Rob Reiner, and Arianna Huffington.
Johanna’s love of the theatre began with a chance trip with her mother to New York City when she was a young girl where she auditioned for the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and fell in love with the theatre. Although Day was an occasional actress in drama or musicals at Rappahannock County High School in the early 80s, she was far better known as a prize-winning sprinter and athlete at school.
Reached by phone in Los Angeles where she currently has a leading role in Distracted, Day told the Rappahannock News, “Really, really, I was surprised. I must admit that I went into The Rainmaker with mixed feelings—actually scared that I could do it. But in the process of learning the play and working with my fellow actors, it became so much fun.” -r
Johanna is the daughter of the late Eileen Day of Sperryville and of Walter Day of Flint Hill. Her large family, * including eight other siblings, are immensely proud of their * “baby sister” and all go to see her plays. Johanna returns home to “beautiful Rappahannock County” whenever she can slip away from her work as an actress. She often speaks of returning “home” one day to build a home on her 15 acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains. But with the siren song of 1 Hollywood beckoning, one can understand if she might put her dream on hold for a while longer. ,
