food/organic food devotees and it was fun to talk to them about harvesting your own wild blackberries and raspberries. You never feel better about your food than when you grow it yourself or get it from a neighbor. It’s one of our favorite things about life in Rappahannock.
Their new home is set up for chickens and they’re contemplating trying their hand with a few once they get settled. I probably went on a little too long about the joy of picking up that warm egg and taking it straight to the house for breakfast that morning. And Tm not sure I warned them enough about the constant battle against predators wanting to eat your chickens!
Goats are also going to be part of their new life as two goats conveyed with the house they bought. Neither one has any experience with livestock of any kind so they’re feeling a little overwhelmed. But they’re also intrigued and that’s always a great way to start. Having raised Nubians I was also able to share some goat stories. And as personable as goats are there are always plenty of stories.
