Usually they’re about escapes, eating the things you don’t want „ them to eat and getting in no end of trouble. But we also have stories of them sitting on our lap and making small contented sounds, of playing with the kids in the spring and of delicious goat cheese.
It’s impossible to talk about moving here and adjusting to rural life without talking about the importance of your neighbors. City people often tell me they couldn’t stand to be as isolated as we are here. But I find that more often than not the fences that separate them from their neighbors are more of a barrier than the acreage that separates neighbors out here! When something goes wrong you are dependent on the kindness of your neighbors. And, when they’re in trouble you have the opportunity to return the favor and to build bonds strengthened by - adversity. We need each other in ways most city folks don’t often get to experience. And it’s one of the greatest joys of living here.
Unlike us, this couple has never lived in the country. So they hadn’t thought to wonder about how their garbage got disposed of. Trips to the landfill will be a new experience for them. Fm sure there are endless surprises awaiting them as they begin their new adventure. Fm looking forward to their stories and to vicariously reliving our first days here in Amissville!
