Wiliams started out with an 18-person roster his first season. Last year, he had 53 boys in the program.
“It’s harder coaching at a small school, but it’s also more rewarding,” he said.
One of Williams’ first challenges to his new players is to recruit more boys to play football before official practices begin on Aug. 1.
About 20 players attended the meeting on Friday, and Wiliams urged them each to find one more person to go out for the team.
Williams also needs to find a couple more assistant coaches. RCHS teacher and coach Scott Stephens will be back on the sideline this season, but slots for two more assistants are still open.
Goals and
expectations
Williams outlined clear rules and expectations for his players.
He said he expects them to behave like gentlemen on and off the field, maintain their grades, keep a clean locker room and be at practice every day.
