Come out and help the Sidney Dodson Cerebral Palsy Fund to be held at the Flint Hill Fire Department on July 28 from 4 to 8 pm. Local bands included are Tinsmith, Different Soul, and Bluegrass. Silent Auction will be held from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. inside firehouse banquet room. Auction items include a day trip from Front Royal Canoe Company, Marcia Pella-National Photography, Coca-Cola collectible doll, Texas Steakhouse and Salon gift certificate, and much more. Local artists and crafters. Hog Wild BBQ from Warrenton. You’ll have to watch for appearances by Spidermanl!

Brandy Station

The Brandy Station Foundation will have the fourth in the series of Sunday Lectures. The lecture is free and for anyone interested in the history of the U.S. Civil War. The program will start at 2:00 p.m. While free, donations are welcomed and will be used for operation of the Graffiti House. July’s speaker will be Virginia Morton who will present “Farley and Stringfellow -- J.E.B. Stuart’s Most Daring Scouts” Scouting and spying have been described as the most dangerous and thankless forms of Civil War service. Come learn about two intrepid Confederates who lived behind enemy lines, experienced hair-raising escapades, made narrow escapes, and lived with the reality that immediate execution awaited them if they were luckless enough to be captured. The life of handsome South Carolinian Will Farley, a true Confederate patriot, seems like a John Wayne movie. Farley once leaped on his horse and raced after a federal train, rode alongside the engine, and shot the engineer. Culpeper native Frank Stringfellow was rejected by the cavalry four times because of his sparse size. Yet, one historian called him “the most dangerous spy in the Confederacy.” Whether hiding under an old woman’s hoop skirt or attending a Union ball in drag, Culpeper’s “007" is credited by Gen. Fitzhugh Lee with gathering more information for the Army of Northern Virginia than any other man. Mrs. Morton is a Culpeper author and tour guide. Don’t miss hearing her illustrated talk on the lives of two of her favorite soldiers featured in her historical novel “Marching Through Culpeper.” The lecture will be held at the Graffiti House, 19484 Brandy Road, in Brandy Station, VA. July 31: Raffle drawing

The Rappahannock Senior Center is holding a raffle July 31 at 1 p.m. at the Rappahannock Park. Tickets are available from any of the attending seniors, at the Senior Center, and at many of the Rappahannock area businesses. There are 52 prizes to be given away, including a beautiful hand stitched quilt made by the seniors themselves, a weekend getaway at Hazel Mountain Haven, lots of gift certificates for meals, groceries, haircuts, apples and more, gift baskets from several great stores, many homemade foods and gifts, and a large variety of other prizes.Tickets are only $1.00!

Aug. 1: Brazilian Soccer clinics

A retired team of professional Brazilian soccer players will be offering a free soccer clinic on August 1, at the Rappahannock County Elementary School soccer field at 8:45 a. m. The event is sponsored by the Baptist Churches in Rappahannock County and the Shiloh Baptist Association. And is open to children ages 513. All members of the public are welcome to attend.
