CULPEPER - Poor Joey Powell may never hear the end of this one.

Mbhaixhs'B^'afeln^ tom of the seventh inning in game two of an Apple Valley League doubleheader, the Culpeper County High School rising senior made a bad pitch to the one guy in the Rappahannock Monarchs’ lineup that he didn’t want to let beat him - his high school coach.
After Powell came on in relief of Red Devils starter Evan Bache in the bottom of the seventh inning and struck out the first two batters he faced, CCHS Head Baseball Coach Dan Nobbs stepped to the plate and belted a 2-0 curve ball over the center field fence to propel the Monarchs to an 86 victory, and complete a sweep of the Red Devils after the Monarchs won game one, 8-2.
“It felt real good to get that home run. I knew Joey was a fastball pitcher, so I prepared for a fastball and he threw me a curve. But that was good for me, because Fm a better curve ball hitter,” Nobbs said. “I had mixed emotions after the game because Joey’s a good kid and a good pitcher. I won’t rag on him too bad, and hopefully our guys won’t either."
The Red Devils opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first, and then added another run in the third on a solo home run by Brent Rutkowski.
In the bottom half of the third, former CCHS baseball stars Andrew Pittman and Jameson Jarvis came through for Rappahannock. Pittman knocked in a run with an RBI triple, and Jarvis plated Pittman with an RBI double.
The Red Devils went up 6-4 in the fifth inning as Dillon Sheads hit a two-run double, and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Derek Powell.
