Two seconds. Not much can be accomplished in that short amount of time. You can bat an eyelash, take a breath, or in polo pro John Gobin’s case, tie a hotly-contested polo game with a single shot.
Gobin’s last-second shot pushed Saturday night’s featured twilight polo game to overtime where fans cheered wildly for the Nash Tigers and Gbbiri’s Goly Pold° teams as they battled in a one-minute overtime. The Tigers would spoil Gobin’s theatrics with a goal to pull out the win, 9-8.
Tigers patron Alan “El Tigre” Nash, 2 goals, wife Debbie, 1 goal, and pro Juan Sanchez, 4 goals, tangled with John “El Polio” (The Chicken) Gobin, a whopping 8 goals, Dominic State, 2 goals, and Luiz Enriquez.
The game belonged to the Tigers in the first chukker as Sanchez — subbing for the injured Jonas Larguia, hurt in an postgame brawl last week — and Alan Nash made two successive goals.
Goly Polo played defensively, keeping the score 2-0 after the first period. Tiger domination continued in the second chukker with Sanchez scoring three to end the half 51.
Goly seemed to use the halftime break to their advantage, coming back with a strong show of force led by team captain Gobin. Gobin scored four points, including a
